Why Columbia

A Call to Citizens Church

Columbia is a city of opportunity, growth, and community. Citizens Church believes God is calling us here to form faithful followers of Jesus who will impact families, neighborhoods, and the next generation.

Why This City. Why This Church.

We see three clear needs in Columbia that uniquely align with how God has shaped Citizens Church.

A Divided City That Needs a Visible Picture of the Kingdom

Columbia is a diverse city across race, culture, and background, yet often feels divided. As citizens of heaven, we want to reflect the unity we have in Christ, like the picture we see in Revelation 7:9.

A Need for Modern, Spirit-Filled Worship

We see a need for a church that holds deep theological conviction and embraces modern, Spirit-filled worship. At Citizens, we are committed to Word, Worship, and Welcome, creating a space that is both deep and accessible.

A Campus That Needs Active, Intentional Engagement

The University of South Carolina sits at the center of the city, yet many students remain under-engaged spiritually. As citizens of heaven, we want to be present on campus with intentionality and long-term presence.

A Strategic College City with East Coast Sending Power

Engaging the campus creates impact not just locally, but nationally.

University Heartbeat

At the center of the city, the University of South Carolina is home to approximately 40,000 students.

Sending Engine

About 52% of students come from out of state, many from places along the East Coast with limited gospel presence.

Broader Gospel Movement

As students are reached in Columbia, they are sent out across the East Coast and beyond, making this city a strategic base for a broader gospel movement.
